| Project Cinderella Heart of the Redwoods has taken on the task of rehabilitating and finding homes for 40 horses seized by the Humboldt Sheriff's office On April 1, 2008. Humboldt County Sheriff's livestock deputies and animal control officers responded to the residence, on the 1900 block of Elk Creek Road, in response to a report of neglected horses. When officers arrived, they found 40 horses, including studs, mares and colts, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Many of the horses reportedly were standing in knee-deep manure, had lice, matted coats, deformed hooves and signs of infection on their hooves. They were also said to be malnourished. We are generously supported by the community through donations of hay, stalls and corrals from Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, horse tack, discounted veterinary care, and many other things. HRHR is totally operated by volunteers that donate time, money and expertise in horse care. |
