| An evening with Equine Experts On Wednesday, February 6th, five equine experts presented an educational seminar at the Humboldt Area Foundation. The seminar was sponsored by Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue (HRHR), as the first part of their Community Education Series. Speakers included, Dr. Robert Branch, DVM; Jerry Tindell, clinician; Tim Shreeve, The Farm Store; Eric Hought, Hought Fine Art and Leather; and Dr. John Koopmans, Koopmans Chiropractic. The evening was attended by a packed crowd of equine enthusiast from all over Humboldt County. “We presented this seminar in keeping with our mission to promote responsible horse ownership through community outreach, education and assistance” stated HRHR’s host for the evening, Amy Abbott. Ms Abbott is an HSU pre Veterinary student that serves on HRHR’s Advisory Board and is also an accomplished equestrian. The presenters gave out valuable information on horse health, equine dentistry, equine chiropractic, nutrition, proper saddle fit and training techniques. The second part of HRHR’s Community Education Series, Horsemanship 1, will be April 12, 2008 at Redwood Acres Covered Arena in Eureka, California. The program consists of ground horse handling skills with horses and their owners. The cost for participants is $50 for non members and $25 for members. The cost to audit is $25 for non members and free for members.
