Three other horses have been turned over to a Trinity County resident who had purchased
them prior to the law enforcement action of April 1st.  That person was able to prove ownership
of the three horses and agreed to appropriately care for them.  The new owner is known to the
veterinarian treating the seized horses; the veterinarian confirmed to deputies the buyer was a
responsible horse owner.

Unfortunately, two horses that were seized from the Elk Creek Road property were euthanized
yesterday.  The decision to euthanize the two horses was made after a thorough examination
and consultation with the supervising equine veterinarian.  Both horses were determined by
the veterinarian to be "irredeemably suffering " , with no hope of recovering from the pain they
were in. The horses were humanely euthanized by a veterinarian, and buried on a local farm.

The remaining horses will stay in the county ' s care until the courts decide their final
disposition as the owner is refusing to surrender them at this time.
